Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases. Simply known as diabetes and the patient is a diabetic person. The patient suffers from high blood sugar levels with multiple symptoms like frequent urination or polyuria, too much thirst or polydipsia, and increased hunger or polyphagia.mellitus.

We can classify diabetes into three types namely:- Type 1 diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. I this case the patient’s body fails to produce insulin and necessitates the person to be injected insulin. Type 2 diabetes is a result of insulin resistance and in this case the cells fail to use insulin properly. This is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes. When a pregnant women, who previously never had diabetes, has high blood glucose levels during pregnancy it is known as gestational diabetes.

Cow urine, since centuries, has been used in the preparation of medicines in ayurvedic medications. The recent scientific studies promise to give hope to millions of diabetic patients in the country and world over.

A three-member team of researchers in Bangalore, led by Dr K Jayakumar, professor and head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Veterinary College under Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, has found that cow urine contains certain molecules that can fight diabetes. This is the first ever scientific study on cow urine and its properties and its findings can change the diabetes treatment in India. Professor K Jayakumar said that they were researching to find that if the increased insulin levels on the rats were result of a cow urine stimulating beta cells of pancreas as in case of oral anti-diabetic agents currently available in the market or if cow urine stimulated regeneration of pancreatic beta cells. They have found that cow urine has anti-diabetic properties.
